Back to School and Back to Routine

There is something so beautiful and free about summer that we yearn for so much in June but by the time we get to September we just crave structure. Back to 3 meals a day (and 2 snacks if that is good for you).Back to regular bed and bath times for the kids. Back to your home from travel and back to everything in its place including you. I suppose it is all part of balance. The 90:10 theory. Just like with food – it is great to stray 10% of the time so you have flexibility but great to have that support and structure so that you aren’t totally lost.

As my four boys put on their new school clothes and pack up their bacpacks bursting with school supplies, they are about to head out with a little apprehension and a little excitement. I remember the feeling well. By the end of the first day it will all be good but right now the butterflies are in their stomachs. My job for the moment is to guide and support and remind them of how well they did last year and how much fun school can be meeting new friends and learning new things and if nothing else – what worked for me – was to have a place to wear my new school clothes.  We have cut our budget on things like this way back, but for that first day to get them through – a new set of clothes can make my men.

p.s. Back in town, not on call and back to my blog quest to be early to bed, early to rise to make me healthy, wealthy and wise.
