What I Do
Are you busy juggling work and family, leaving you with no time or energy to take on the battle of the bulge? Have you fallen prey to quick unhealthy crimes of culinary convenience?
Are you a corporation frustrated by growing sick time and lack of productivity from employees who have become uninspired and who barely have the energy to make it through the day?
The number of overweight and obese teens has tripled in the last generation! Obesity has now edged out tobacco as the #1 killer of Canadians. Obesity is a major risk factor of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes and it doesn’t have to be this way. But it takes a desire to change and support to break free of the vicious cycle of emotional overeating and stress. It takes commitment and a plan to easily conquer those cravings.
59% of Canadians are overweight or obese.
Imagine life at your ideal weight! Imagine how you would look, how you would feel and how much energy you would have and the things you could do. Imagine going out to that party or for that job promotion feeling great, confident, happy and free. Imagine having the energy to play with your kids and getting off the bench and into the game of life.
So why are you stuck in a non-optimized body?
I know that those pounds crept on little by little while you were busy and then, before you knew it whammo! They really added up. Just as they added up a pound at a time, they will come off a pound at a time. If I’d have known how great I would feel on the inside and how easy it was once I got started, I wouldn’t have wasted another minute of my life being overweight. I know the real you can’t wait to be uncovered.
So, what is it going to take to uncover the real you?
First, accept that your current situation is as it is without any blame or shame. Think of your life as one big series of experiments. Some work out better than others. Observe and be aware. Commit to take charge of your life and put yourself back on your priority list. YOU MATTER! Then you can use the tools and support that are out there to transition step by step to making healthy choices become as natural as breathing so that you can live the life of your dreams. It has been said that life is not a dress rehearsal. Don‘t push your health and happiness far into a future that may never come. Be Good For You Now!

I speak to and write for busy 30-60 year olds that struggle with their weight and balancing the fast paced schedule of work and family life.
They typically have 2-4 kids and the pounds have crept on over the years. They drive mini vans through drive-thrus to grab a quick meal or coffee. They put their family’s needs first to the detriment of their own health and happiness all in the name of trying to do the right thing.
They are exhausted at the end of the day and week and may grab a drink to unwind. They eat convenience foods. Ketchup and fries are their main vegetables and they are surrounded by unhealthy choices at work, at home and at play. They are challenged by time, money and know-how to reconnect and provide for their families in a healthy way.
The moms I work with are busy driving their kids to school, running errands, doing laundry, dishes and other unnoticed jobs. Many moms also juggle work commitments outside the home. They rush from school pick ups to activities and squeeze in some kind of dinner often on the run. They help their kids with homework. They make lunches, get clothes and backpacks ready for the next day and go to bed near exhausted with no thought or time for themselves. They don’t remember eating – but they overdid it. They love their families but are completely overwhelmed by the day to day and are feeling lost in the shuffle.
They worry about the health of themselves and their family but are reacting in crisis mode. They are easily misled by health claim ads and confused about what is healthy. Their worry and fear lead them to denial and the ostrich solution but deep down they would like to soar free of this struggle.
They are searching for meaning and connection. They are sick and tired of being sick and tired. They want to be unstuck from their big busy bodies. Most of them don’t know that their food is killing them or at least that food is a big part of many of their problems. Food changes everything! They don’t know the power of their choices. They underestimate their power as a healthy role model for their children and the ripple effect in their community.
Do any of these situations sound familiar?
- It is dinner time and you have no idea what’s for dinner. You feel guilty, stressed and this is your daily crisis hour. Your mini-van already knows its way through the drive-thru line and you have the menu memorized.
- You have a closet full of clothes and nothing fits. There is a pile of rejected clothing evidence lying on the floor right next to you and your deflated ego to prove it. You don’t even have enough energy to go out anyways, even if you did find something that fit well.
- You know you are responsible for your children’s health. You want to provide healthy meals for them and be a healthy role model but you don’t know exactly how to do that and live your busy schedule.
- You would love to lose weight and look and feel great again but you have tried to lose weight before and it didn’t work. You love food and you are short on will power.
- You want an easy, fast, delicious healthy menu that delivers permanent results for weight loss that you can weave into your busy life. You don’t want to give up your favourite foods.
My Core Philosophy
You are what you eat – and I don’t just mean food. These words took on greater meaning when I underwent my 30 lb weight loss over six years ago. More effective than “working it off” was the food that I ate and not just the quantity but especially the quality. As I observed my body as a living lab it became the best teacher. Working with your physiology, your culture and preferences and choosing more local, fresh, seasonal, organic food and keeping the process light and fun is a great foundation. We are nourished by more than just food. Our relationships, career, activity and spirituality play an even greater role in addressing our hunger. When you are totally satisfied in these areas, you are less likely to go hunting to fill the void in the refrigerator. Observing what you really need, coupled with nutrition know-how is a recipe for success.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates. The father of medicine had it right. Healthy food and lifestyle choices can greatly prevent costly and devastating disease. If you are eating anyways, why not be good for you?
